In the Sermon on the Mount found in Matthew 5, Jesus shares his deep convictions with us about what truly makes us blessed or happy in the sight of God. He lived these beatitudes on a daily basis. These 8 steps to holiness are most difficult to exercise consistently, and they reveal a value system opposed to worldly wisdom. It is clear from the teaching of Jesus that holiness does not depend upon age, health, wealth, intelligence, status, political connections, etc. Holiness is an inside job. It is more a matter of the heart than of the head. The beatitudes challenge us to examine our inner thoughts and attitudes, and to align our hearts to that of Jesus. Each of the beatitudes has a promise attached to it that will be fulfilled here and hereafter.
